Thomas Visit

August 18-20, 2006

When we met Thomas in Mexico in 2004, it was an instant connection. It's hard to resist a man who serves you cake. (See Potrero Chico trip report to relive the glory days.) We've managed to stayed in touch, so when Thomas and his girlfriend Amy had reason to come to San Francisco, we rolled out the welcome mat. We packed in a ton of activities and even had a chance to just chill out and catch up.

Boat Day

Thomas being the boat-freak he is, wanted to spend his day in San Francisco looking at boats. Sarah looked into how one might do that and found that there is a Maritime Museum down by Ghirardelli Square. In addition to that amazing discovery, we learned that you can tour around several boats docked in the marina. After learning about schooners, fenders, ballasts and gaffs, we felt fully prepared for a stint on the Tesha (as soon as Thomas builds it).

Climbing

Given that we met Thomas while climbing at Potrero Chico, it was a must for all of us to go climbing together in the bay area. We went to Castle Rock and jumped up and down a few times before heading back to the city for a night on the town. Click here for the full climbing trip report.

Life Imitating Art

After a delicious dinner at La Provence, we headed to Foreign Cinema for a drink. Upstairs was a really cool art exhibit and we decided to entertain ourselves by imitating the images.
